Brazil
born in: Bento Ribeiro
on: September 22, 1976
role: Forward
height: 183 cm
weight: 82 kg
He is a forward with sensational technical and athletic
skills, striking for the speed by which he performs first-class
plays making almost any stopper's attempt on him ineffective.
His football idol is another great Brazilian champion:
Arthur Antunes Coimbra, 'Zico', former player for Udinese.
It is not evident who was the talent scout for young Ronaldo:
it seems however that Jairzinho has had fundamental role
in the Phenomenon's transfer to professional football.
He was successful in five different scorers' results boards:
Brazilian Championship (1994), Dutch Championship (1995),
Dutch Liga Cup (1996), Spanish Championship (1997), American
Cup (1999).
He has been nominated player of the year by FIFA in 1996,
in 1997 and in 1998. In 1997 he won the Golden Ball. During
the 1998 edition of the World Championship, he has been
awarded as the best forward and player in the tournament.
He is considered one of the best forwards of all times.
At Korea/Japan 2002, the Phenomenon's World Cup dream
comes true. Ronaldo scores a total of 8 goals in 7 games
to win the top scorer award. He scores 2 of those in the
final against Germany to lift the World Cup trophy and
Brazil become 'Pentachampion' - World Cup winners for
the fifth time.
Ronaldo has now scored 12 goals for Brazil at World Cups,
equalling the record set by the legendary Pelè.
